Support The London Library

Supporters across North America enable the Library to develop its unrivalled collection, beautiful reading spaces and outstanding online resources as well as burgeoning writing support and learning programs.

The International Friends of The London Library (IFLL) has generously supported the Library for over 40 years, and as a thank you for their generous support, the International Friends enjoy benefits and events that bring them closer to The London Library.

Administered from New York under a volunteer Board of Directors, the International Friends of The London Library is a registered 501(c) 3 charitable corporation. Donations made to the International Friends by U.S. taxpayers are deductible under the United States Internal Revenue Code.

US Founders’ Circle Patrons

The US Founders’ Circle Patrons support the work of The London Library through an annual gift. The support of the US Founders’ Circle is vital to keeping the doors of 14 St James’s Square open, the books in the collection cared for and available for all readers, writers and thinkers that use them.

There are three levels of support:

  • Martineau - from $2,500

  • Thackeray - from $5,000

  • Dickens - from $10,000

Patron benefits include

  • Membership to The London Library

  • An annual programme of exclusive events in the United States with authors, historians and well-known Library members

  • Invitations to Library events in the UK including Supporters’ Lunches, the President’s Christmas and Summer Parties

  • Recognition of your support in the Library’s magazine in the Annual Report

  • A copy of The London Library magazine three times a year and the Supporters’ Newsletter four times a year

Supporting Library projects

The London Library is actively seeking support for a number of projects that aim to improve resources, support writers and enable more users to engage with literature, reading and the Library.

If you are interested in supporting a specific project of area of the Library’s work, or want to learn more about the Library’s activity please contact the Library team on +44 20 7766 4795 or at fundraising.team@londonlibrary.co.uk.

Some of the Library’s projects include:

  • Collection Development - including conservation of the open access collection and special collections in the safes, and the expansion of particular subjects

  • Writers Support Programmes - including our Emerging Writers’ Programme

  • Learning, Participation and Access Programmes - including the Free State Schools Membership and Creative Writing and Engagement Workshops

  • Capital Projects - to improve the Library building, spaces and infrastructure
